Primary Responsibilities
Campus Business Systems Administration - Ensure the implementation and efficient operation of hosted systems that support core institutional business functions such as the Banner ERP. Work with the Banner DBA to implement, configure, and support system middleware such as Tomcat application servers and Oracle databases. Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes. Reviewing system and application logs and verifying completion of scheduled jobs to include server and database backups
Develop, document, and maintain policies and procedures for system administration for existing and new systems. Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, and configurations for hosted operating systems (Windows and Linux server environments)
Develop and maintain system scripts to automate system support activities
Work with the campus VMware administrator to provision server environments supporting hosted business systems. Ensure system and database backup procedures are in place
Work with systems analysts, the Banner DBA, and application administrators to provide technical support for problem resolution of the University's Enterprise Resource Planning systems. Assist with data integration of business systems with 3rd party hosted and cloud applications
Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President for Information Technology and other IT management to develop strategic plans and road maps for enhancing server and network support as well as develop disaster recovery solutions for all systems and applications
Daily research forums/discussion groups to learn about any new security vulnerabilities or technical issues related to our business systems and server environments. Perform the necessary patches or updates to maintain integrity of the systems
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related IT field or a bachelor's degree with relevant experience
Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in Linux system administration and other server operating systems such as Windows Server and UNIX
Experience scripting in various languages such as Python, Bash, or shell scripts
Experience working with Tomcat middleware
Experience working with SQL, API services, single-sign-on (SSO) technologies and database administration
Must have strong troubleshooting skills and knowledge of server hardware
Must be available after hours and/or on weekends to install and maintain hardware or software components and to troubleshoot any service interruptions
Ability to work independently with limited supervision as well as part of a team
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Demonstrated experience and understanding of quality customer service
