No If categorically (grant) funded, date funded through: Department Specific Needs: Job Description Basic Function: BASIC FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the area Director, manages the daily operation of the administrative computer system(s) including database management, software distribution and upgrades, user profile management, version control, backup and recovery, performance and security management; creates and maintains a variety of operating platforms; designs and writes interface programs to integrate systems on administrative software; assist district employees with technical issues with administrative software; and assists programmers with program logic and debugging techniques. Education: EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Experience: EXPERIENCE: Five years directly related experience in mainframe/mid range computing systems; at least two years professional experience with a UNIX based operating system; at least two years experience with installing and maintaining a UNIX based relational database system, and experience with the installation of operating and application software on systems similar to the District's current computing system are required. An in-depth understanding and experience with identifying, correcting, and monitoring the system's problems and the planning necessary to prevent future occurrence of the same problem and training in relational file structures and design, information retrieval techniques, and file access methods are required.
KNOWLEDGE OF: UNIX based operating system and mainframe/midrange computing systems.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Requires the ability to exert some physical effort, such as walking, standing and light lifting; dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs and body in the operation of computer, services, and office equipment. Tasks require extended periods of time at a keyboard.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment. Duties and Responsibilities: REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Ensures District Administrative computer systems are operational, programs are functional, and data is correct and available. 2. Monitors, manages, and maintains system activities for HP servers and Sun Web Server; and manages and maintains disk space for applications. 3. Performs database maintenance and installs Datatel Patches for all main accounts. 4. Maintains security for Unix servers; writes Unix scripts; installs hardware and software on Unix servers; and installs district software on Information services computers for home use. 5. Analyzes, modifies, tests, and debugs new and existing computer programs; assists Programmers with an analysis and debugging of computer programs and custom paragraphs; consults with Programmers with regard to programming logic. 6. Configures district printers on the administrative software. 7. SALARY: Salary grades consist of nine steps. A new employee is normally placed on Step 1 of the grade. Changes in step placement take place on the first day of the first month following the anniversary date of attaining permanent classified employee status until the maximum of the grade is reached.
HOLIDAYS: There are 13 holidays observed each year. A pro-rata reduction will be made for employees working less than full-time and less than twelve months.
VACATION: Employees are granted 12 days of vacation per year through the first five years of service to the District; 15 days after completion of five continuous years of service to the District; 20 days after completion of ten continuous years of service to the District; and 22 days after completion of 15 continuous years of service to the District. This computation is based on full-time, twelve-month employment. A pro-rata reduction will be made for employees working less than full-time and less than twelve months.
