The Grounds Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for supervising the grounds crew in daily operation of grounds maintenance and landscaping.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Responsible for supervising all technical phases of groundskeeping operations and grounds maintenance functions.
Operates and maintains all assigned vehicles and equipment.
Identifies and maintains the majority of turfgrasses, trees, shrubs, and bedding plants on campus.
Instructs crew members in the planting techniques, care, and maintenance of campus landscaping.
Supervises and participates in the care, maintenance, and preparation of all outdoor athletic facilities.
Tracks grounds crew assignments and monitors the time to complete assigned tasks through the campus work order system.
Marks, paints, and maintains athletic field lines year-round to ensure optimal playing conditions.
Obtaining quote from local firms for contractual services.
Maintains general and inventory records.
Authorizes requisitions of equipment, tools, and supplies and arranges for shipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Prerequisites:
Minimum two-year college degree is required
3-5 years of landscaping experience with a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience
Experience with installing, maintaining and repairing irrigation systems
Pesticide certification for turf grass and ornamentals is preferred
Ability to express self effectively, both orally and written
Ability to establish effective working relationships with various groups of employees
Demonstrate supervisory ability to direct the workflow of subordinate employees
Demonstrate supervisory skills such as organizing, coordinating, leading and counseling for the effective supervision of the grounds staff
Extensive knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in grounds maintenance work
Available to be on-call for emergencies such as storms and snow events
Ability to work weekends to cover campus events, when needed
Knowledge of proper use and daily maintenance of equipment
Knowledge of soils and fertilizers and proper landscaping techniques
Snow removal and equipment preparation and maintenance
Able to lift a minimum of 100 pounds.
