Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates must: 1) Hold, or be eligible to hold, a Nevada school administrative license with authorization to serve as Superintendent, 2) Possess a master’s degree in education or a related field, or equivalent qualifications, 3) Have a minimum of five (5) years of school or district-level administrative experience, such as service as a principal, assistant principal, central office administrator, or comparable leadership role, 4) Be willing to reside in Churchill County within six (6) months of accepting the position
Preferred Qualifications
Successful teaching experience at the elementary and/or secondary level
Educational & Instructional Leadership
The Superintendent is expected to be a strong instructional leader with a deep understanding of effective teaching and learning. The successful candidate will promote student-centered practices, support continuous improvement, and maintain a long-term vision for student success. Experience with innovative instructional approaches, including competency-based learning where appropriate, and the ability to support multi-tiered systems of support for all students are highly valued.
Governance & Organizational Leadership
The Superintendent must clearly understand and respect the distinct roles of the Board of Trustees and administration, serving as a trusted advisor and collaborative governance partner. The role requires integrity, consistency, and fairness in implementing Board policies and administrative decisions, as well as the courage to make difficult decisions in the best interest of students and the District. Establishing clear expectations and ensuring accountability across the organization are essential responsibilities.
Financial Stewardship & Operations
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong budgeting skills and a working knowledge of Nevada school finance. The Superintendent serves as a careful steward of district resources, balancing short-term operational needs with long-term fiscal sustainability. Understanding the financial implications of staffing, collective bargaining, and operational decisions is critical to this role.
Staff Leadership & Human Resources

The successful candidate will have a proven record of effective personnel management, including hiring, evaluation, and professional growth, while empowering others through delegation and leadership development.
Communication, Visibility, & Community Engagement
The Superintendent must be a highly visible and engaged leader who communicates effectively with students, staff, families, and community members. Strong listening skills, transparency, and openness to feedback are essential. The role includes building and sustaining partnerships with parents, community organizations, military leadership, local government, and higher education, as well as serving as a statewide advocate who effectively tells the District’s story.
