Position Summary:
The Adams State University Computing Services Department provides a wide spectrum of hardware, software, telecommunications, audio-visual and technical support for campus computer and mobile devices. Support includes, but is not limited to: systems design, software and system programming, database applications, web applications and support, helpdesk, desktop, network management, testing, troubleshooting, training and general user support.
This is a twelve-month exempt, at will, full-time position reporting to the Vice President of Administration | Chief Information Officer (VPA|CIO).
The Manager of Network & Systems Administration is responsible for oversight and management of the Network/Telecommunications and Systems Administration teams at ASU. This is a working leadership position which includes managerial and supervisory responsibilities, as well as technical responsibilities and duties within the areas of networking and systems administration.
Specific Job Duties (Essential Functions and Responsibilities):
Managerial Responsibilities:

Actively and effectively communicate with team members of both the Network/Telecommunications and Systems Administration teams by holding and facilitating weekly team status meetings and one-on-one meetings with team members on a regular basis.

Maintain, update and review master team project list on a regular basis.

Meet regularly with the VPA|CIO and other team leads in order to keep VPA|CIO and other team leads abreast of specific issues and ensure individual team goals support the mission and vision of the Computing Services Department.

Act as a core member of the Computing Services leadership team with the overarching tasks of providing input into the departmental architecture roadmap for both the Network/Telecommunications and Systems Administration teams, leading and participating in appropriate RFPs, trade studies, and peer reviews, and providing strategic, budgetary, and resource planning recommendations to the VPA|CIO based on the architecture roadmap.

Act as a point of contact for the department as appropriate to support campus communications and take initiative to resolve associated issues as they arise.

In coordination with the VPA|CIO, provide overall direction of team goals, and implement those goals at the team level.

Coordinate and oversee the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and related documentation for the Network/Telecommunications Team.

Other duties as assigned that may arise in support of the team lead function.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
-
Provide specific and documented feedback on team members' job performance to support performance appraisal and management processes.

Actively observe performance and behavior of team members and provide appropriate supervision, mentoring, and coaching to correct problem behaviors, encourage positive professional behavior and teamwork, and assist team members with professional development.
Technical Responsibilities:
-
Function as a technical member of the systems administrator and network/telecom teams, advise VPA|CIO and team leads on Computing Services overall technical needs, issues and recommendations. Technical duties may include server management, network administration, systems administration, access control system management, network design, edge routing, Internet Firewall management, and other technical tasks and duties in support of the operations of the University’s IT infrastructure.

Oversee the network and systems administration teams' maintenance of campus Internet connectivity, including specification and maintenance of edge routing equipment, traffic shaping systems, and dynamic routing configurations.

Coordinate Adams State data center design, configuration, and operations with the systems administrator and network teams.

Act in a support and back-up role, when needed, for Network/Telecommunications and Systems Administration team members when they are unreachable.

Work as an active team member on various team projects and initiatives as necessary in support of short-term and long-term team goals and initiatives.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in MIS, CIS, CSCI or related field. Related work experience may be considered as a substitute for the Bachelor’s degree requirement.

A minimum of 5 years professional work experience in an IT field with demonstrated increasing levels of personal, professional, and technical responsibility.

Excellent leadership and supervisory skills with a demonstrated ability to successfully manage a diverse group of employees through discretion, professional judgment, and effective personal communications.

Demonstrated technical abilities and leadership in a systems administration team or networking/telecommunications environment.
-
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
-
Excellent interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work with diverse campus constituencies.
-
Extensive experience with implementing cross-functional and intra-departmental projects and systems.
-
Knowledge of current trends, ideas and resources in the systems administration and networking/telecommunications areas of higher education.

Ability to treat others with respect, civility, and courtesy and to work honestly, effectively, and collegially with employees, students, and the community. This includes the ability to use appropriate conflict management skills to effectively manage any disagreement that might arise or to bring the disagreement to management for assistance in productive resolution when the situation requires.

Ability to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to remain poised under all circumstances, and to interact effectively with people in a positive manner that engenders confidence and trust.
Preferred Qualifications:

Professional work experience in Systems Administration or Network Administration.

A minimum of 3 years in a technical leadership/management position supervising full-time employees.

Experience working in a higher education Information Technology environment.
Conditions of Employment:
The position is a full-time, 12-month exempt at-will administrative position with benefits.

$93,936-121,992 annually; salary is commensurate with education, qualifications, and experience.
