Job Description:

• The System Administrator is responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration and repair for servers, networks, applications, and other technology services consumed by the employees, students, clients, and partners. The System Administrator works alongside Network Engineer and Administrator and executes plans established by the Director of Network Services.

• Ability to work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socio economic backgrounds
• Installs, configure and deploy server hardware and software, including operating systems, applications, and patches to support and maintain effective network service operations throughout the College.
• Perform routine and/or preventative maintenance, upgrades, and patching of various hardware, software, and operating systems.
• Manage security of hardware, software, & operating systems using role based access control and principles of least privilege.
• Configures systems for high availability including strategies for back-up and recovery, failover, load balancing, and full redundancy.
• Evaluates systems and alternate solutions; develops functional specifications, standards, and requirements for hardware and software purchase and design to ensure optimum system and end-user performance; makes recommendations for changes and additional services
• Creates, and maintains written and verbal procedures; prepares written technical documentation, training material, standards, reports, and other documents as assigned.
• Diagnoses and resolves complex software, server, and networking issues.
• Attends and participates in meetings, conferences and in-service trainings; maintains current knowledge of technological advances and industry trends Test
• Define, plan and implement a stable and reliable backup plan that provides data recovery.
• Take a proactive approach to monitoring platforms and services, identifying and predicting problems prior to them developing into emergencies and reporting recommendations to management.
• Occasional Travel will be required
• Occasional after hours work as needed including weekends
• Other Duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or Information Technology.
• 5+ years as system administration duties in IT may be substituted for degree
• At least five years' experience in providing technology support operations and management of network systems over multiple geographic locations
• Commitment to creating and working in a collaborative and team-building environment
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Strong written and communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Network Certifications such as Cisco, CWNA, Microsoft, Juniper, Novell, Security+, etc. are recommended. Juniper and Cisco experience preferred.
• Demonstrable experience in designing, building, managing, and migrating networks, servers, and software applications.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
• Strong Analytical skills
• Experience deploying enterprise switches including Cisco and Juniper is preferred
• Experience deploying enterprise grade centrally managed wireless solutions is preferred
• Experience in troubleshooting and resolving network issues including root cause analysis is preferred
• Layer 3 vlans vrf dynamic routing protocols experience is preferred
• Experience with both VMware Vsphere and Microsoft Hyper-V is preferred
• Experience with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure is preferred
• Identify and automate routine/tedious tasks using Powershell is preferred
• Experience with scripting to read and write to hardware and software APIs is preferred
• Experience in monitoring networks, servers, & applications using snmp, syslog, wmi, ssh and other protocols is preferred
• Experience with using monitoring metrics for capacity management of resources needed to meet business requirements is preferred
• Experience in evaluating and configuring firewall policies is preferred
• Experience with applying principals of least privilege to satisfy business requirements is preferred
• Active Directory experience required including configuring various server roles is preferred
• Ability to perform periodic security assessments and remediation of deficiencies is preferred
• Experience with working with spam filtering products/services is preferred
• Working knowledge of installing SQL Server and performing basic SQL queries is preferred
• Experience working with on-premise Exchange Server is preferred
• Experience administering Microsoft Office365/Azure is preferred
• Experience in managing security surveillance systems is preferred
• Experience with performing lifecycle upgrades including migrating configuration information from vendor to same vendor or from one vendor to another vendor is preferred
• Experience in creating of best practices applicable to environment is preferred
• Experience developing, building, implementing & testing disaster recovery and business continuity plans is preferred
