Overview
The Systems Administrator II manages and maintains the IT infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability of the University's systems. Administer servers, networks, and other IT components. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement best practices for system management. Perform root cause analysis to prevent the recurrence of issues. Communicate solutions to clients. Set up and configure new servers and systems according to organizational standards. Collaboration with the technical support teams in the various schools and units. Supervise and coordinate server support and production scheduling in a 24/7 operational environment monitoring global systems for the university. Participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
Responsibilities
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Computer Programming, Engineering, or Information Technology
Required Experience: 3+ years relevant experience with system administration including installation, maintenance, support or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include previous experience in operating systems, servers, hardware, network administration, authentication systems, client server applications, designing/developing system enhancements and software applications, programming experience with modern languages and, application software, protocols, tools and utilities.
Preferred Experience: 3+ years experience with architecture, implementing and administering Linux and Windows based solutions, experience managing storage devices such as SAN, troubleshooting and solving difficult system problems (hardware, software, and basic networking). Ability to balance multiple, concurrent projects and regularly communicate issues and experience working in an autonomous, fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Proficiency with multi-vendor hardware/software management, security, network/Internet protocols. Problem identification/resolution, performance management/tuning, and design configuration/planning. Knowledge of related large-scale computing systems and/or product installs and maintenance. Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Experience providing administration and support to 24x7 production systems. Participated in a 24/7 on-call support rotation support schedule. Proficiency in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of infrastructure components in both physical and virtualized server environments running both Linux and Windows operating systems. Planning and deploying migrations of applications to vendor supported operating systems (Red Hat, Microsoft). Administration and support of hosting solutions residing on premise (VMware) and cloud-based (AWS, Azure). Experience with capacity planning, monitoring, and maintenance of Linux and Windows servers and the services they provide. Patch management: operating system, security patches, and/or handling configurational issues on applications. Configuration management automation and deployment automation. Good hands-on technical and troubleshooting experience including provisioning, configuration, modification, and decommissioning.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Strong experience in supporting large Linux and Windows server environments. Experience in managing, monitoring, deploying, and troubleshooting servers. Demonstrate knowledge and extensive experience with enterprise technical environments, including IP, DNS, VLANS, InfoSec, and related technologies. Knowledge of enterprise-class backup and disaster recovery environments. Knowledge of cloud technology and hybrid cloud implementation a plus. Experience administering servers hosting Active Directory, Apache, IIS, MS SQL, and Oracle database. Proficient in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, Ruby, and Perl. Experience with Ansible, Puppet, and automation technologies. Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Planning, coordinating, and monitoring project activities. In-depth experience with Disaster Recovery and Avoidance planning. Interact and coordinate with application owners, operations teams application, infrastructure, network, and security, change and release management team and external vendors. Resolve technical issues during the migration, perform root cause analysis and address complex and critical migration issues from an architectural perspective. Experience and desire to work in a Global delivery environment. Participate in an on-call rotation for support of systems outside of normal business hours. Provide technical support and coordination to service providers in relation to configuration management for communications hardware. Responsible for ensuring that infrastructure documentation is accurate and maintained on a timely basis. Work closely with the Infrastructure Services Team and provide support and backup where necessary. Track related IT issues, coordinates resolution, and assists in driving issues to closure. Provide timely follow-through with customers and IT peers on IT service requests and tasks. Managing and implementing projects with Active Directory, Privileged Access Management (PAM), and muti-factor and single sign on authentication. Experience with back up and restoration process of servers and disaster recovery processes. Knowledge of cloud providers including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
Qualifications
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $85,500.00 to USD $104,500.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
