The Board of Education of the Floral Park-Bellerose UFSD is seeking a Superintendent of Schools to begin on July 1, 2025. They are looking for an outstanding educational leader, who possesses knowledge of curriculum, instruction, personnel, special education, school finance, and school safety and security.
The Floral Park-Bellerose Union Free School District, comprised of approximately 1,550 students, in two schools, Floral Park-Bellerose Elementary School and John Lewis Childs Elementary School, house grades PreK-6 on a neighborhood basis. Students continue their education for grades 7-12 at Floral Park Memorial High School, which is part of the Sewanhaka Central High School District. The Floral Park-Bellerose district provides a continuum of programs, placements, and related services to meet the needs of children across the entire educational continuum. Moreover, the district proudly supports the academic and mental wellness of every child with teacher expertise and programs that encourage growth for all.
Ideally the candidate should possess experience as an elementary school teacher and building and central office administrator. Moreover, the successful candidate must possess NYS Certification as a School District Administrator or School District Leader. The Board of Education is offering a regionally competitive salary and benefits package.
The Floral Park-Bellerose Board of Education has hired School Leadership, LLC consulting firm to assist in the search for the new Superintendent of Schools. The following are the major characteristics that the input from the school and community stakeholder groups would suggest the Board of Education should be seeking and screening for in candidates for the position.
The successful candidate will be:
A compassionate, empathetic, and visible leader who is committed to being part of the Floral Park Bellerose family, and who has experience in elementary schools as a teacher, building, and central office administrator;
An energetic educator, familiar with working in a small school district and tight-knit community, whose skills include, but are not limited to, effective communication, collaboration and transparent decision-making, budget management, school safety and security, and trust-building among all constituent groups;
A forward-thinking administrator with experience in developing programs, as well as the professional development associated with the implementation and sustainability of these programs, with respect to Special Education, English as a New Language, Gifted and Talented, and rigorous general education programs that will benefit all students;
An educational leader who has been successful in training, developing, and supervising staff to meet high expectations for professional practice and performance; and
An approachable and collaborative administrator with effective interpersonal skills, who is highly visible in the schools and community, and is able to work well with the Board of Education, community, parents, faculty, staff, and students.

School Leadership, LLC was founded in 2004 and since that time has assisted more than 130 New York, New Jersey and Connecticut school boards in the recruitment and selection of new superintendents. Its President is Dr. Charles Fowler, who served as a superintendent for 35 years in four states; he is assisted by 20 associates who are also former superintendents, board members, university professors, and state level administrators.
