Announcement is hereby made for two (2) full time (12-month) Specialist positions in the Office of Information Technology Services, on the Ammerman Campus in Selden. Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.
This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.
The System Administrator Specialist position that will report to the Associate Director of Infrastructure Services and be responsible for managing IT systems with respect to maintenance, installation, and administration; identity management, user security, and directory services; and application installation and administration. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure, have excellent customer service skills, and be able to work collegially and effectively in a team environment. This position may require some evening and weekend work.
Job Responsibilities:
Install, maintain and repair all server hardware and software & provide support, monitoring, testing and troubleshooting server hardware and software problems.
Collect and analyze data and information to make recommendations regarding server, security platforms and software specifications, including costs and completion times.
Perform and coordinate hardware upgrade/replacement along with vulnerability scanning, security audits, patching and upgrading of all software on servers.
Maintain both on-premises and cloud-based solutions for communication and collaboration.
Support the end user community through troubleshooting, account maintenance, and collaboration with help desk staff.
Contribute to and provide guidance and technical expertise for activities such as:
Design and deployment of functional and secure ldAM solutions
Design and deployment of Mail transport and cloud-based applications.
Address challenges associated with access control solutions such as role-based access control.
Federated identity with external systems utilizing multiple identity protocols
Work with College data owners to establish, maintain, and optimize role-based access control across the organization.
Participate in regular security or compliance audits related to system access.
Develop and implement methods for management, monitoring and tracking of access to information resources.
Assist the Associate Director of Infrastructure Services with business continuity planning and risk management within the context of Data Center operations.
Works with outside vendors and College IT group to maintain hardware and software for Data Center operations.
Responds to emergency failures due to facility outages.
All other duties assigned by the Administrative Director of Infrastructure Services, related to the needs of the department and/or the needs of the College.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in Technology or related field with a minimum of (5) years overall IT experience, including server and system administration, installation, configuration and maintenance in an enterprise environment, supporting and maintaining networking protocols in a server environment within an enterprise environment and three of the five years in (3) years of experience building and maintaining systems running virtual platforms and cloud-based architecture in an enterprise environment, supporting and maintaining Directory services, IdAM systems & supporting and maintaining mail applications and storage applications both on-premises and cloud based.
Alternatively, a Bachelors degree with a minimum of (6) years overall IT experience, including server and system administration, installation, configuration and maintenance in an enterprise environment, supporting and maintaining networking protocols in a server environment within an enterprise environment and three of the five years in (3) years of experience building and maintaining systems running virtual platforms and cloud-based architecture in an enterprise environment, supporting and maintaining Directory services, IdAM systems & supporting and maintaining mail applications and storage applications both on-premises and cloud based.
Preferred Qualifications:
Project Management Experience.
Certification in information security, networking or server management.
