Sun Valley Community School seeks a Director of Educational Technology and Innovation beginning July 1, 2026, to creatively and thoughtfully guide the future of how our school community uses technology in support of teaching and learning.
This is a designing, training, teaching, and learning–focused role, centered on educational technology, pedagogy, and learning design rather than technical operations or hardware management. The Director will strategically plan, implement, and steward educational technology systems across the school while collaborating closely with faculty to leverage technology for powerful, student-centered learning experiences. This role emphasizes helping students become capable, ethical, and creative digital thinkers and makers.
The Director serves as a member of the school’s leadership team, reports to the Head of School, and plays a vital role in shaping academic programs across the division. This is a full-time position with benefits. For the right candidate, the position may include housing support. Sun Valley Community School maintains access to rental housing units throughout the Wood River Valley and may assist relocating candidates based on availability, family size, and other factors. Housing details will be discussed during the final stage of the search. Finalists will be required to complete state and federal background screening to ensure eligibility to work safely with students.

Collaborate with school leadership and faculty to develop and implement a K–12 educational technology vision aligned with the school’s mission, guiding principles, and strategic plan
Partner with academic leaders and teachers to evaluate, select, and adopt AI tools and other educational technologies that enhance engagement, deepen learning, and support innovative pedagogical practices
Provide leadership around the ethical, intentional, and developmentally appropriate integration of AI and emerging technologies, including articulating guiding principles, instructional use cases, and faculty and student expectations
Stay current with research, trends, and best practices in educational technology, learning sciences, and emerging tools, translating that knowledge into actionable strategy
Manage the educational technology budget in alignment with programmatic priorities and strategic goals
Lead the selection, evaluation, and ongoing review of instructional tools and digital resources to support accessibility and strong learning outcomes
Use qualitative and quantitative feedback to assess the impact of instructional technology initiatives and guide continuous improvement
Faculty Support & Professional Learning
Design and facilitate professional learning experiences focused on instructional technology integration, emerging tools, and future-ready teaching practices, including:
Individualized coaching
Departmental, divisional, and all-staff workshops
Ongoing professional learning communities
Curated resource libraries (tutorials, videos, and guides)
Partner with faculty to pilot, implement, and refine innovative educational technologies
Collaborate with the Teaching & Learning team to strengthen technology coaching and support onboarding and professional growth for new faculty
Curriculum & Instruction
Collaborate with faculty to design and steward a K–12 technology scope and sequence aligned with developmental stages, including maker education, design thinking, computational thinking, computer science, digital literacy, AI fluency, and digital citizenship
Serve as a thought partner to teachers and administrators around instructional design, assessment, and learning experiences that leverage technology to support creativity, inquiry, and student agency
Invite and elevate student voice and leadership in technology-rich learning experiences
Teach technology-related courses or experiences as appropriate, such as:
Co-teaching a Robotics or Maker program
Teaching computer science or computational thinking course
Leading an “AI Innovation Lab” culminating in student-driven, community-connected projects
Participate in outdoor education trips and experiential learning opportunities when possible
Community Engagement & Leadership
Build partnerships with peer schools and educational organizations to collaborate on technology-enhanced learning initiatives
Serve on curriculum, teaching, and learning committees

Professional Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Experience designing, delivering, and coordinating technology workshops and training, preferably for teachers in a K-12 school
Classroom teaching experience, preferably in a K-12 school
Experience integrating technology into process workflows or classroom instruction, or supporting others in their use and integration of technology
Experience coordinating major technology projects or initiatives for an organization
A fundamental understanding of management-level IT principles and best practices
Experience as an administrator or manager of enterprise data systems
Leadership and Personal Qualities:
A genuine interest in instructional technology and pedagogical innovation — and an ability to inspire and support faculty to explore and try new ideas
A passion and interest for overseeing all areas of technology — IT, data/systems, and instructional — even if prior experiences in these areas are not equal
Inspirational, pragmatic, and diplomatic leadership that is sensitive to the needs of a dynamic and diverse faculty and staff
A collaborative, cooperative, empathetic, collegial, innovative, and patient mindset
Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, presentation, and training
A commitment to the mission and values of Sun Valley Community School, and in particular a passion for outdoor education and experiential learning
Confidence and humility, together with a sense of humor and warm personality
Capability to lift up to 25 pounds and access hardware in hard-to-reach spaces
Preferred, though not Required:
Experience administering data systems that are part of Blackbaud’s ON suite
