Position Description Holderness School is seeking an Instructional Technology and Support Specialist. The Instructional Technology and Support Specialist blends instructional technology partnership with hands-on technical support. This position works closely with faculty to support effective and thoughtful use of technology in teaching and learning, while also providing responsive, day-to-day support across devices, systems, and classroom technology for both students and employees.
This role is intentionally designed as a balance between faculty-facing instructional support and Help Desk operations, and plays a key role in ensuring both a high level of service and meaningful integration of technology across campus.
This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Director of Technology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Technology & Faculty Support (Approx. 40%)
Partner with faculty to support the effective integration of technology into teaching and learning.
Provide one-on-one and small group support for instructional tools, workflows, and classroom technology.
Spend regular time in classrooms and faculty spaces providing hands-on, “elbow support” and meeting faculty where they are in their use of technology.
Assist faculty in aligning technology use with instructional goals and classroom practices.
Serve as a resource for troubleshooting and optimizing technology use in the classroom.
Training and Professional Development
Plan and lead faculty training sessions (workshops, small groups, and one-on-one support).
Provide timely, responsive support during key teaching, learning, and operational moments throughout the academic year.
Develop and maintain clear documentation, tutorials, and resources for technology use.
Stay current on emerging trends in educational technology, including AI and digital tools, and recommend practical enhancements.
Academic Systems Support
Assist in deploying, configuring, and supporting instructional tools and platforms (e.g., LMS, Google Workspace, classroom tools).
Collaborate with the Director of Technology and team members to ensure systems are effective, reliable, and aligned with classroom needs.
Help evaluate and test tools prior to broader rollout.
Technology Support & Help Desk (Approx. 60%)
Serve as a primary point of support for help desk requests across the school community, providing timely, courteous, and solution-focused troubleshooting across hardware, software, systems, classroom technology, A/V, and basic network-related areas
Document work clearly in the ticketing system and contribute to the knowledge base
Escalate complex issues to appropriate team members or vendors as needed
Device & Classroom Technology Support
Assist with deployment, setup, and maintenance of employee and student devices.
Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the employee laptop program in collaboration with the Technology team, including device deployment, refresh cycles, collection, and re-assignment.
Maintain accurate records of assigned devices and their lifecycle status.
Partner with team members to ensure devices are updated, secure, and aligned with school standards.
Maintain and support classroom and meeting space technology, including providing A/V support for teaching, presentations, and events as needed.
Collaboration, Communication & Continuous Improvement
Partner closely with the Director of Technology to align technology efforts with instructional goals.
Collaborate with faculty, academic leadership, and Technology team members.
Maintain a visible and approachable presence across campus through regular classroom visits, office hours, and faculty touchpoints.
Communicate clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical users.
Maintain clear documentation of processes and solutions.
Identify recurring issues and proactively work with the team to reduce friction and prevent repeat problems.
Approach issues with a focus on both immediate resolution and long-term improvement.
Translate front-line support experiences into recommendations that improve systems, workflows, and user experience.
Scope of Role
This position does not manage staff.
Works within the Help Desk system, but is not the administrative owner of the software.
Supports instructional technology but does not independently set academic or curricular strategy.
Collaborates with team members on systems and infrastructure.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Experience working in an educational environment preferred.
Experience supporting or training faculty/teachers strongly preferred.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Ability to translate technical concepts into practical, classroom-ready solutions.
Comfortable balancing independent work with collaboration.
Experience with Google Workspace, LMS platforms, and classroom technology tools preferred.
